The Fair Dinkum

This vacation was a long time in the making.  Several years ago I saw a program on PBS about cruising the Erie Canal.  I decided then that as soon as my kids were old enough to appreciate it, we would charter a canal boat and do it ourselves.

Well, the kids were old enough this year (6 & 10), so we rented the 42-foot canal bareboat “Freedom” for a week from Erie Canal Cruise Lines.  We cruised from Fairport, NY east on the Erie Canal and then south to the Cayuga-Seneca Canal into Cayuga Lake.  We headed south toward Ithaca (35 miles) and then north again to end our adventure in Seneca Falls.

Following is a quick summary of our trip.  There are more details and pictures on the individual Cruzday pages.
